Record of Griffon vultures from Mangaon taluka once again ......

Recorded again after 10 months ...

There are so many new things to look for when it comes to bird watching and photography. While walking in some parts of Mangaon today, 14 vultures were found. 7 white-backed vultures (Gyps bengalensis), 5 Indian vultures (Gyps indicus) and 2 Griffon vultures (Gyps fulvus) were found.

Of these, white-backed and Indian vultures are found in Southeast Asian countries. Griffins are found in the Himalayan mountain range but migrate to the south of India in winter.

White-backed and Indian vultures are listed as endangered by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature). The main reason for this decrease is the drug Diclofenac given to cattle. Compared to these, the number of griffon vultures is quite balanced.

The vultures were recorded by Tushar Bhoir, Mangaon, Raigad.
